Welcome to Thomas Knyvett College

A very warm welcome to this new school year.

As a school community we are committed to realising our vision that Great Learning Changes Lives by creating a culture in which everyone aspires to achieve. We strive to provide a welcoming, challenging, secure and inclusive learning environment where all students and staff are respected, cared for and feel that they belong.

Our aim is to prepare our students for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead, enabling each student to realise their full potential by embracing the values and skills necessary for long-term self-development and the growth of our community and wider society. We encourage our students to believe actively that they will play a part in shaping the present and future world and that their actions will determine their destiny.

We equally recognise and promote the importance of life-long learning for our staff, developing a culture that we can always be ‘even better’ and supporting them with professional and career development.

We believe self-respect and consideration for others are valuable life behaviours. To facilitate high aspirations, progress and achievement, we have high expectations of behaviour, rooted in respect for one another. To work well, we must all act with courtesy, co-operation and common sense.

In this coming academic year, we will be working to address the areas for improvement highlighted in the Ofsted report from November 2023, namely:

  • to ensure that the intent and design of the curriculum in all subjects is as good as the very best practice in the school
  • to ensure that the implementation of the curriculum through teaching and learning in all subjects is as good as the very best practice in the school
  • to ensure that the recently introduced behaviour policy and protocols is fully embedded and that pupils’ behaviour is positive and respectful.

We have already made progress against these, and other key areas prioritised for improvement in the School Development Plan, but it is essential that we do not lose momentum so that the pace of improvement remains rapid.

Thank you for being a part of this school’s improvement journey. We are committed to creating a reflective educational environment and a school community Where great learning changes lives.
