Work Experience & Big Interview

Preparing for the World of Work

At Thomas Knyvett College, we know that Great Learning Changes Lives, and real-world experience plays a big part in helping students shape their future.

🔧 Work Experience (6–10 July 2026)

All Year 10 students are invited to take part in our annual summer work experience programme, giving them the chance to step into the world of work and gain valuable insights into different careers.

 What is Work Experience?

  • A structured, educational activity that’s part of our careers programme
  • A one-week placement with a real employer
  • A chance to carry out tasks and experience the workplace
  • A valuable, unpaid opportunity to learn and grow

 Why It Matters:
✅ Build confidence, responsibility, and resilience
✅ Gain new skills and workplace etiquette
✅ Explore if a career path is right for you
✅ Strengthen college, apprenticeship, and job applications
✅ Set clear goals for your future

 Important:
Students are expected to arrange their own placements. Employers must provide public liability and employer’s liability insurance.

 💬 The Big Interview

As part of our Year 10 careers journey, students will also take part in The Big Interview, a one-to-one mock interview with a local employer.

Students will receive:
🎤 Personalised feedback on their interview performance
📄 Advice on improving their CVs
💼 A realistic experience of a professional interview setting

We support students in preparing their CVs during school time, but we also encourage them to take initiative and work on their CVs independently.
